Salsa term: Guiro (Musical instrument)

The Güiro: also a concave rhythm instrument. Only the cheeper ones are made of lumber. The real are made of a dried and concave Kalebasse, in which are cutted rills before drying. You can play it with a stick. It comes from Cuba and is fitted in many rhythms: »Son Cubano, »Danzon, »Cha Cha Cha, »Timba and so on. In the meantime there are also Gürio made of plastic.
